Over a decade now, Enugu-Onitsha dual carriage
road passing through Umunya town in Anambra State, has being a night mare as
well as dangerous for road users, especially for the National Youth Corp
members whose orientation camp is situated at the area.
During an interview in his office, Very Rev. Fr.
Prof. Bonachristus Umeogu, urged the federal government led by President
Mohammadu Buhari, to own up to their responsibility and supervise it
extensively. He stated categorically that lack of supervision on government
projects, is an issue that must be taken seriously, especially now that there is
economic recession in the country.
The internationally acclaimed Professor and cleric
further noted that the lives of Nigerians, such as the National Youth Corp
members and others who ply the road frequently are endangered by the comatose
state of the federal road.
According to a trader, Aisha Musa, she cried that
she has lost several millions of naira on her wares that fell with trailers and
lorries while plying the road. The bad road has been the major cause of several
road accidents in the past.

Meanwhile, the indigenes of  Umunya, a town that plays host to the State
NYSC Camp have pleaded to both state and federal government on the total
rehabilitation and construction of the federal road, but their pleas seemed to
have fallen on deaf ears; till the road became a death trap for its many users.
