The current crisis rocking Obafemi Awolowo University OAU, Ile-Ife, over the increase of school fees have been downplayed by the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Bamitale Omole, who said that the increase in tuition is necessary.
Professor Omole reiterated that the increase in charges were in line with the current economic realities in Nigeria.
“Considering the fact that the cost of providing education has risen nationwide and inflation has eaten deep into the allocation to the university from government, it is our duty to keep up with the standard,” he said.
He added, “in view of the need to continue to provide quality and competitive education for our students and the need to maintain infrastructural facilities in the university, the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife deemed it necessary to review the charges upward”.
Meanwhile, the online registration and verification of students data were introduced to cut down on wastage of resources as it will be easier and efficient also.
