The frequent disruption of academic activities currently rocking different higher institutions in Nigeria has reached the University of Abuja UNIABUJA as the lecturers in the school under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU have embarked on an indefinite strike action.
The Chairman of the branch, Mr Ben Ugheoke, said that the union had resolved to embark on an indefinite strike beginning from Monday over the alleged misappropriation of funds allocated to the institution by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof James Adelabu.
Adelabu was also accused of misusing of power and plots to cripple the union by not paying their check-off dues.
The union said the vice-chancellor deliberately refused to pay their teaching, marking, supervision and professional allowances dating back to 2010.
However, the Federal Government on July 16, 2012 constituted a visitation panel to resolve issues affecting the institution but the white paper of the report had yet to be released.
