The members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has lamented the Federal Governments attitude toward polytechnic education in Nigeria.
Speaking to reporters on the latest ASUP Strike update, the Chairman of ASUP, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State branch, Mr. Adeyemi Komolafe, said technical education has been abandoned by the Nigerian government as the strike embarked upon by the polytechnic lecturers is almost one year old.
It will be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics started an industrial action last year over government inability to implement agreements between the FG and the union.
The union chairman said that the strike is brewing security challenges in the country as the youths who were being recruited into the growing army of the insurgents would have had the capability to turn down the extremists if they had had technical skills and were engaged in meaningful ventures.
He however urged the FG to listen to the voice of reason and resolve the ongoing strike so that the students will go back to school and become productive to the society.
